PAME expresses its solidarity with the working class of Italy and salutes the strike called by USB for September 22 against the crime being committed by the murderous state of Israel in Palestine and the support it receives from the Italian government. This strike sends the clearest message: the workers of Italy will not become accomplices in the massacre of the Palestinian people; they will not sacrifice themselves for the imperialists’ wars.

In recent days, a wave of mobilizations has swept across Europe. In France, thousands of strikers flooded the streets on September 10 against the anti-workers’ attack of the government and corporations, and they are escalating with a new strike on September 18. In Greece, the unions are preparing a general, nationwide strike on October 1 against the 13-hour workday, demanding a 7-hour day – 5-day week – 35-hour week and Collective Agreements with wage increases. In Italy, workers are striking to make sure that not a single bullet, not a single weapon passes through that will shed Palestinian blood.

The common thread connecting these battles is the war economy. The governments of the EU are channeling billions into armaments, military missions, NATO expenses, and support for the murderous state of Israel that promotes their interests in the Middle East, while at the same time they are cutting wages, dismantling labour relations and social security, increasing working hours, and abolishing Collective Agreements.

The price of this policy is paid by us, the workers, with intensified work, exhausting schedules, attacks on the right to strike, and constant pressure to work more, “more flexibly” and “more competitively.”
It is no coincidence that the EU and its governments, who give money, weapons, ammunition, ports, and transport to the murderous state of Israel and cover it diplomatically and politically in the genocide of the Palestinian people, are the same ones who are crushing the working class in their own countries for the profits of the business groups. Every euro that goes to the war industry, to tanks and bombs, is one euro less for wages, health, education, and social needs.

From France to Greece and Italy, across Europe, we are united by our common struggles against exploitation, poverty, forced migration, against imperialist war and the capitalist profit-hunt that gives rise to it. Struggles that say “no” to the war economy that plunges workers into poverty, destroys lives everywhere, and sows death among the peoples, from Ukraine and Africa to the Middle East.
Struggles to demand money for wages, health, and education, not for the slaughterhouses of war and the genocide of the Palestinian people!
