Anti-imperialist rallies across Greece | Wednesday August 6, 2025
History has one just side — With Palestine until Freedom!
On Wednesday, August 6, anti-imperialist rallies took place across Greece, marking 80 years since the imperialist crime of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
In Athens, thousands of members of trade unions, student associations, and grassroots organizations gathered at the Acropolis to honor the victims of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. From there, they marched to the offices of the European Commission in Greece, demanding an immediate end to the genocide of the Palestinian people by the murderous Israeli state. The demonstrators condemned the EU for its active role in NATO’s war planning and its political cover for Israel’s crimes.
80 Years Later, the Threat Remains
Eighty years after the bombings, the threat of large-scale war and nuclear annihilation remains. The deepening antagonisms between imperialist powers—between the Euro-Atlantic camp (US–NATO–EU) and the emerging Eurasian bloc (Russia–China)—are escalating the danger of a new nuclear holocaust. Today, nine states possess over 12,000 nuclear warheads—enough to obliterate life on the planet.
At the same time, the Israeli apartheid regime continues its genocidal war against the Palestinian people, backed unconditionally by the US, NATO, the EU, and the Greek government. Israel maintains a secret nuclear arsenal, refusing all international oversight. Meanwhile, the same imperialist powers hypocritically invoke the nuclear programs of other countries as pretexts for wars and interventions.
We Continue the Struggle — We Demand:
- Greece out of all imperialist wars
- Closure of all US and NATO bases
- No installation of nuclear weapons anywhere in Greece
- Ban on the production and testing of weapons of mass destruction
- Immediate withdrawal and return of all Greek military missions involved in NATO and EU operations abroad
- No change of borders and full respect for international treaties that define them
- Greece’s immediate withdrawal from NATO and the EU — with the people in power
