PAME denounces the arrests of 13 trade unionists of the energy sector by the police on Monday 17 April in Marseille.
On Monday afternoon, shortly before Macron’s speech, trade unions and workers all over France carried out diverse mass activities. In Marseille, the local energy union made a symbolic mobilisation at the Region’s offices where they threw electricity-natural gas meters into the street and lit a firecracker, denouncing energy prices. The police proceeded to arrest of 13 trade unionists of the Energy Union, 5 women and 8 men, talking about an “explosion” at the site of the mobilization, seeking to intimidate the workers of the area.
The arrests were immediately responded to by the UD CGT 13 by calling for a mobilisation on the spot and a protest at the Police Headquarters. Under the pressure of the mass mobilisation, the trade unionists were released without charge.
PAME denounces the state repression against the workers and the people of France. The authoritarianism and repression is another sign of the fear and weakness of the power of the few against the mass, collective action and struggle of the working class.
Solidarity with the workers of France!
INTIMIDATIONS WILL NOT PASS – THE PEOPLE’S STRUGGLE WILL BREAK IT!
